30,600 gallons in a sealed, jacketed shell that reports its pressure, temperature and level every second.
The car powers its own valves, sensors and brakes from axle generators and a 48 V battery. Heating takes 150 kW from the unloading rack, never from the car. Every valve is motorised and interlocked; the pressure-relief valve stays mechanical.
Three to four weeks per car. The shell is rolled, welded and heat-treated, hydro-tested at 6.9 bar, then wrapped in blanket and jacket; stub sills, head shields and trucks follow, then the valves, outlet and car electronics; the finished tank is air-tested, brake-tested and weighed.
Design targets for the autonomous tank car.
